MRI
Meet the Emerson Radiologists
Emerson Hospital MRI Centers offer convenience and highly-skilled radiologists and technologists to meet all of your MRI needs

With convenient locations in Concord and Westford, Emerson Hospital MRI Centers offer state-of-the-art equipment with exceptional service in a relaxed atmosphere close to your home or work place. An MRI, magnetic resonance imaging, exam provides detailed imaging of the brain, nerves, spinal cord, bones, joints, breasts, abdominal and pelvic organs with exceptional clarity. These images help to assist clinicians in establishing the proper diagnosis and the proper treatment. An MRI is a painless, safe and radiation-free diagnostic test that uses radio waves, magnetic fields, and computer software to create highly detailed cross-sectional images of the body's structures.

Emerson is committed to ensuring patient satisfaction with timely scheduling, the most advanced equipment and flexible hours to fit your needs.
ABOUT EMERSON'S MRI CENTERS

Emerson is dedicated to providing the community it serves with the best available equipment and staff. At both our MRI Centers in Concord and Westford you will find only the most advanced equipment including the 1.5 Tesla technology which produces the highest quality images. The open configuration of the GE 1.5 Tesla Horizon LX High Field Open MRI, located in Westford, also helps to minimize patient anxiety.

Our highly trained radiologists are all board-certified. Emerson's radiologists have sub-specialty expertise in musculoskeletal, neuroradiology, breast and women's health and body imaging. The technologists are also highly experienced with advanced training. This expertise provides you with access to superior knowledge and service. The radiologists are available to consult with your physician upon request.

To ensure high quality patient care, Emerson has implemented the Picture Archival and Communications System (PACS). PACS allows for images to be viewed electronically rather than waiting for a hard copy of the images, thus saving time in diagnosis and treatment. Those physicians who are part of the Emerson Hospital network will be able to view the images and reports on line.

WHAT DOES AN MRI INVOLVE?

Once your physician has scheduled a MRI exam for you, you will be contacted by an Emerson MRI staff member to complete a safety-screening checklist and registration.

When you arrive at either the MRI Center in Concord or Westford, you will be asked to change into a hospital gown and remove any metals, such as earrings, watches or other jewelry. A locker will be provided for your personal belongings, but please leave valuables at home.

A technologist will guide you through every step of the exam prior to starting and are always available to answer any questions you may have. When the MRI exam begins, a technologist will help you lie down on a padded table and move you into the magnet so the body part being examined is centered. For comfort and convenience, an intercom system allows you to be in constant communication with the technologist.

During the exam, you will hear a tapping noise, which is the sound that the machine makes when it is taking pictures. You will be given earplugs at the beginning of the exam to minimize this noise.

A MRI exam takes approximately 30-60 minutes, depending on the body part being scanned.
